Let Our Voices Be Heard

Let Our Voices Be Heard (LOVBH) is a group of consumers and advocates across disability groups who work to make sure that people who use services are at the table when decisions are being made and that democracy is accessible to all.

The group has been meeting for nearly a decade and has participated in many different events around citizen engagement.  Members have had the opportunity to meet with their state legislators in Harrisburg through our Advocacy in Action trips, as well as locally at Legislative Breakfast events.  Members have also had the opportunity to become civically involved through letter writing, phone calls, voter education and outreach, as well as local organizational forums and town hall meetings.

Focus for 2011

Each year, the group reflects on its accomplishments and challenges over the previous 12 months and sets a priority plan for the coming year.  For this year, the group identified two primary objectives: Personal Care Home advocacy and increasing voting access for individuals with disabilities.

Also new this year, and in the early stages of implementation, is the Speakers Bureau.  Volunteers within the group have developed a short presentation to deliver to community agencies to share their stories and increase awareness and participation in the group.

If your organization is interested in hosting a Speakers Bureau presentation, please contact Sarah Rosso 412-661-7860 ext 2018 or srosso@mhaac.net.
