Reading with Miss Pennsylvania

One in 5 children in the United States has a diagnosable and treatment mental health condition, and as a young child, Miss Pennsylvania was part of this statistic. Miss PA 2011, Juliann Sheldon, is partnering with MHAAC to promote her platform of "Mental Health Awareness" by facilitating discussions about feelings and emotions with elementary school students. It is important for children to learn as early as possible how to identify their feelings and express them in appropriate ways.  When children cannot manage their emotions and do not have anyone to share their feelings with, this can lead to negative behaviors, including bullying.

Through reading "Today I Feel Silly & Other Moods that Make My Day" by Jamie Lee Curtis and using her personal experience as a guide, Juliann helps children to learn about being healthy in a different way than they may be used to learning.

If you would like Juliann to meet your students, please contact Ali Rendulic at 412-661-7860 ext. 2015 or arendulic@mhaac.net.
